And the coronavirus pandemic adds to the numbers. In 2020 the World Food Programme won the Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to combat hunger. While this helped their mission, they still face many obstacles in their quest to eradicate hunger. We checked in with Valerie Guarnieri to see how the WFP is promoting food security under the pandemic and what is needed to reach their goals.
