There was once a fisherman who lived with his wife close by the sea in a pigsty. One day whilst trying to catch something he picks up a talking squashy looking fish who claims to be a prince. So he lets him go. But his wife is furious that he didn't make the fish grant him any wish, so she makes him go back to the fishing grounds to find the fish prince. The fish grants the man's wish of living in a little house with his wife.
At first his wife is happy living in this small cottage, but she soon becomes more greedy. She beats her husband into going back to the sea to find the fish to grant her wish of living in a giant stone castle filled full of servants, but it still does not satisfys her. She sleeps tossing and turning thinking of what she could have that was more exciting than a stone castle.
