But Wally gets picked off too, he gets gunned down in a shootout with Ness and Lee Hobson and Enrico Rossi.
And so Charles ''Lucky'' Luciano, the big boss in New York, phones Madikoff. Luciano says maybe this deal is too big for Madikoff, and he might have to deal with Mike Pavanos instead. Madikoff says he'll run Pavanos into the lake if he tries to take over; he also suspects Pavanos has been tipping Ness. Madikoff sets up a meet with Ness one night; Ness is riding in Madikoff's car, with Hobson and Rossi following behind in their car. Madikoff blatantly tells Ness
