Gene captured Cady, and he and Pat bring him in, but Cady isn't talking. The other heir, Pauline Logan wants to sell the Lazy L, but Gene refuses. Gene and Pauline divide their halves of the ranch, only to find that Pauline has no kitchen on her side, and Gene won't feed her, to make her behave. Pauline fakes a sprained ankle, so Gene loans Champion, and she rides over to Latimer, who she was going to sell to. Cady is killed when he was about to attack Gene, and reveals that oil is found on the Lazy L. Gene and Pat ride over to Latimer's, stop the lease signing, and bring them in.
