石头碰着碗吃面，脸色十分难看。仙草将他叫到院子里，他这才知道，白嘉轩帮他寻回了妻儿，答应接济他粮食。石头听说，忙冲了出去，大喊，族长被绑了。众人大惊失色，纷纷追了出去。朱先生让鹿三带人通知其他各村，堵住绑匪的出口，不让他们离开白鹿原。最终，他们找到了被遗弃的马车，却没有看到人。
他们接到了绑匪的来信，向他们索要赎金，朱先生和村民聚集在祠堂商量如何救人，仙草听说绑匪要的是钱，转身回去拿钱，冷先生主动提出凑钱，也转身回去了。朱先生希望村民们能帮忙凑钱，鹿泰恒也保证就算是卖房子卖地，将来也一定会还上。
白家妈妈拿出了所有的积蓄，听说这赎金是白鹿两家各出一半，又收了回来，准备留下一些。仙草见此情景，十分着急，情急之下动手将钱抢了过来，跑了出去。子霖媳妇回家，并没有把全部的钱拿出来，而是留下来一些，兆鹏看到，十分不解。众人正在凑钱，没想到居然有人送进来一只断手。大家吓了一跳，子霖媳妇更是直接晕了过去。朱先生盯着石头，石头最终终于说出绑匪可能的藏身之处。众人带着家伙儿冲了出去。仙草也追了出去。
绑匪藏身在一个窑洞里，这时他们才知道，他们是因为白嘉轩带头铲平了所有的鸦片，断了他们的财路，才铤而走险，绑架了他们。而一旁的，正是胡掌柜的尸体。胡掌柜已经被他们杀害了。
他们终于找到了绑匪的藏身之地，众人将绑匪藏身的窑洞围了起来。但他们顾忌绑匪手上的枪和白鹿二人的性命，不敢乱动，只能靠朱先生虚张声势和绑匪谈判。钱没有凑齐，在朱先生的斡旋下，绑
